To treat sick prisoners in the Buna/Monowitz concentration camp, the "prisoner infirmary" (Häftlingskrankenbau, HKB) was set up after building of the camp began in October 1942. The medical care available to prisoners was extremely inadequate, as there were virtually no supplies and medicines. There were selections in the HKB. The HKB existed until the camp was vacated on January 18, 1945.
